September Reading Focus
Students will be able to…..
Ideas to support this at home…..
  • Pick a ‘Good-Fit’ book to read
  • Build their reading stamina (staying focused in a book, goal is 20 minutes)
  • Share characteristics of different reading genres
  • Tell how a book follows the pattern that most fiction books follow.
  • Read together at home
  • Ask questions about what happens in the beginning (characters, setting & problem), middle (major events) and end (solution to the problem)

September Math Focus

Students will be able to…..

  • Read 3 digit numbers
  • Write 3 digit numbers
  • Represent numbers in one way
  • Tell the value and place of a three digit number.
  • Compare two 3 digit numbers
  • Order a set of 3 digit numbers
  • Write fact families for addition and subtraction.
  • Use the relationship between addition and subtraction to check my answers.
  • Use strategies to add and subtract numbers.
  • Show your students numbers and have them read them to you
  • Say a number and they write it down
  • Put numbers in order from smallest to biggest
  • Addition and subtraction fact practice (they need to know basic facts quick and fast)
Note: 3 digit numbers are in the hundreds (i.e. 248 or 672)
